Cambodia Says Thai Forces Fired Across Border

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 7, 2025) — Cambodia accused Thailand’s armed forces of staging multiple cross-border attacks in Preah Vihear province on Sunday, saying its own troops held fire to honor existing agreements.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, said Thai soldiers allegedly opened fire on Cambodian positions in the Prorlean Thmar area of Choam Khsant district between 2:15 p.m. and 2:32 p.m.

The ministry said Thailand later issued “baseless” accusations against Cambodia, which Phnom Penh “entirely rejects,” calling the claims an attempt to mislead public opinion and justify an escalation of tensions.

A second series of incidents was reported later in the evening. At about 8:02 p.m., Thai forces allegedly fired small arms near Cambodian front-line positions in the O’Phka Sneh area. Another round of firing, including mortars, was reported at 8:30 p.m. in Prorlean Thmar and ceased around 8:50 p.m.

Cambodia said its forces refrained from retaliating during both episodes, citing commitments under previous agreements and international law. The ministry said it has notified the ASEAN Observer Team for the second time and will request a formal investigation.

The statement reaffirmed Cambodia’s adherence to ceasefire arrangements and joint declarations with Thailand, stressing that disputes must be resolved peacefully rather than through force.
