PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 20, 2025) — Cambodia and China have opened a new exhibition in Phnom Penh tracing centuries of cultural ties between the two nations.

Culture and Fine Arts Minister Phoeung Sakona and Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin presided over the launch of the non-permanent exhibition, Historical Bonds: Khmer-Chinese Relations Through Culture and Art, at the National Museum of Cambodia on Wednesday.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, members of the Culture and Fine Arts Parliamentary Committee, the rector of the Royal University of Fine Arts, foreign and national guests, and students.

Organized by the Department of Museums in cooperation with the Academy of Chinese Cultural Heritage, the exhibition also draws support from the Cambodia-China Government Working Group for Angkor Site Conservation, the APSARA National Authority, the Preah Vihear National Authority, and the Preah Khan of Kompong Svay research team led by Professor Mitch Hendrickson.

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia jointly back the project.

The exhibition features Chinese artistic objects, craft techniques and cultural elements found within Khmer society, while exploring how Khmer communities have historically perceived Chinese influences.

It aims to illustrate the enduring cultural relationship between the two peoples, particularly through joint efforts in heritage conservation and research.
