Cambodia, U.S. Officials Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.07, 2025) — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn met with Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to explore ways to deepen bilateral cooperation across key sectors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

The meeting highlighted several strategic opportunities, including the 75th anniversary of Cambodia-U.S. diplomatic relations, Cambodia’s current role as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations, and the United States’ contribution to peace efforts along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
Both sides welcomed the recent signing of the Cambodia-U.S. Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs (ART) in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, describing it as a milestone for mutual economic growth. They stressed the need for practical steps to ensure the agreement’s effective and timely implementation.
On regional security, Prak expressed Cambodia’s gratitude to U.S. President Donald J. Trump for his role in facilitating the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28 and the subsequent Joint Declaration on Peace signed in Kuala Lumpur.
The two officials also discussed follow-up measures to implement the declaration’s commitments. They emphasized the importance of restoring trust and confidence between Cambodia and Thailand, with the shared goal of achieving lasting peace and stability along the border.
