Cambodia, Morocco Sign Roadmap to Deepen Multi-Sectoral Cooperation Ahead of 30-Year Milestone
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.23, 2025) — Cambodia and Morocco have agreed on a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen multi-sectoral cooperation and expand future collaboration, following a virtual meeting between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

The two ministers praised the steady progress in bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen cooperation across key sectors, including trade, investment, tourism, science and technology, and sub-national partnerships such as sister-city initiatives.
They welcomed the positive momentum and committed to finalizing outstanding draft agreements in these areas.
Both sides emphasized the importance of regular engagement between sectoral ministries — particularly in agriculture, energy, transport, and tourism — through reciprocal visits and virtual exchanges to foster practical, mutually beneficial cooperation.
Prak Sokhonn noted that 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two kingdoms, calling it a milestone that reflects three decades of enduring friendship, mutual respect, and fruitful collaboration.
To commemorate the occasion, the ministers agreed to organize cultural weeks in each other’s capitals and other joint activities aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties.
Morocco reaffirmed its support for Cambodia’s candidacies to the UN Economic and Social Council (2028–2030) and the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2026–2030).
Bourita also announced an increase in Morocco’s annual scholarship quota for Cambodian students from 20 to 30, with a focus on diplomacy and international relations in French.
In a show of solidarity, Bourita confirmed Morocco’s participation at the highest level in the upcoming Francophonie Summit hosted by Cambodia in 2026, underscoring the close and enduring ties between the two nations.
The ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, justice, and mutual respect as foundations for global stability. Sokhonn briefed his counterpart on Cambodia’s efforts to peacefully resolve its border dispute with Thailand.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Joint Communiqué, which outlines a forward-looking roadmap to advance multi-sectoral cooperation in celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Morocco.
