Cambodia Urges Peace, Renews Global Commitment to Gender Equality at Beijing Summit

BEIJING, China (Oct. 13, 2025) — Samdech Khuon Sudary, president of Cambodia’s National Assembly, on Monday called for peace and nrenewed global efforts to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.

Speaking under the theme “One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women’s All-Round Development,” Khuon Sudary marked the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, calling it a “landmark that continues to guide our shared commitment.”

She praised China’s leadership in promoting gender equality and emphasized that peace is essential to achieving development goals.

“Peace is the precondition to achieve our goals,” she said. “I call upon the international community to closely monitor the implementation of the fragile ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand to restore peace and normalcy.”

Reflecting on Cambodia’s progress since the 1995 adoption of the Beijing Declaration, Khuon Sudary said the framework remains central to national development.
“Women are the backbone of our society and economy,” she said.

She cited gains in gender parity in education, reductions in maternal mortality and domestic violence, and increased participation of women in public service, entrepreneurship and peacekeeping.

“Cambodia stands ready to work closely with our partners to build a future where every woman and girl can live with dignity, equality and opportunity,” she said.

The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women brought together heads of state, parliamentary leaders and development partners to accelerate commitments to gender equality, women’s empowerment and sustainable development.
