Cambodia warns public over misleading Instagram content

PHNOM PENH, March 30, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of Information has cautioned the public against misleading videos posted by the overseas Instagram account “Dixie Dragon,” stressing the content was not filmed in the kingdom.
Spokesman Tep Asnarith said the footage appeared to have been recorded in a neighboring country, “likely Vietnam,” citing visible signs and labels in a language other than Khmer.
The ministry said it has been monitoring the account and has asked the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to request Instagram take action against the misleading posts.
Officials have also attempted to contact the account owner directly to seek removal of videos that could misrepresent Cambodia.
Some Instagram users have already pointed out in comments that the clips were shot outside Cambodia, with several identifying Vietnam as the location.
The ministry urged users not to share such content and encouraged them to post clarifications such as: “This is not Khmer, and this is not in Cambodia” to curb disinformation.
Authorities said they will continue monitoring the account and coordinate with relevant agencies to take further measures.
