PARIS, April 19, 2026 (KPT) – The Cambodian Embassy in France on Saturday rejected accusations that it acts as a political party representative, stressing its role as a neutral state institution serving all Cambodian citizens abroad.

In a statement, the Embassy dismissed what it called “baseless accusations and misinterpretations” spread by extremist individuals, insisting it represents the nation and national interests “without discrimination based on political affiliation, race or religion.”

Ambassador Luy David.

The Embassy said Ambassador Luy David regularly attends events hosted by French partners and Cambodian community groups to strengthen bilateral ties and support the diaspora, adding that opposition activists may be present but its engagement remains strictly diplomatic.

It clarified that the exclusion of opposition figure Sam Rainsy from an April 16 event at the French National Assembly was the decision of the French host MP, not the Embassy. Cambodian state representatives, it noted, cannot associate with individuals convicted of serious offenses including conspiracy against the state, attempted coup and insult to the monarchy.

The Embassy urged Cambodians not to be misled by “incitement and distorted narratives” aimed at undermining unity, pledging to continue “faithfully serving the nation and its people.”
