PHNOM PENH, June 10, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful diplomacy and adherence to existing border mechanisms in addressing territorial disputes with Thailand, rejecting any use of military force, a government spokesman said Wednesday.

Spokesman Pen Bona stressed that Cambodia’s position remains unchanged, insisting disputes must be resolved through dialogue under established frameworks such as the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), based on treaties, conventions and mutual agreements.

His remarks followed what officials described as inaccurate Thai media reports misrepresenting recent comments by Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Bona clarified that Samdech Techo had reiterated Cambodia’s reliance on negotiation and peaceful settlement, urging all parties to avoid misinformation that could fuel misunderstanding.

He said Thailand must fully respect the December 27, 2025 Joint Statement, particularly provisions calling for urgent JBC work on border demarcation in affected areas, including those with civilian populations.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has separately warned that the ceasefire with Thailand remains fragile despite holding, voicing concern over conditions in disputed zones.

He stressed that sovereignty must not be altered by force or by creating “facts on the ground.”
Bona added that Cambodia values its relationship with Thailand as a close neighbour, with shared interests in peace and stability.

He said strict adherence to international law, existing agreements and dialogue based on mutual respect is essential to restoring trust, sustaining long‑term peace and enabling displaced residents to return home and rebuild their livelihoods.
