Cambodia, China to Launch Inaugural ‘2+2’ Strategic Dialogue

PHNOM PENH, April 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and China will hold their first “2+2” strategic dialogue in Phnom Penh on April 22, bringing together the foreign and defence chiefs of both countries, officials said Tuesday.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun will meet Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Seiha, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The talks mark the launch of a mechanism agreed during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Cambodia in April 2025, the foreign ministry said.

Spokesperson Chan Ratana that the dialogue is aimed at deepening the countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership, strengthening political trust and expanding cooperation.

Officials said discussions are expected to cover political relations, defence ties and broader regional security issues.
