LAPU LAPU CITY, Cebu, May 7, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully, respecting sovereignty and rejecting the use of force in line with international law, as he addressed the 31st ASEAN Political Security Community Council Meeting on Thursday.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister said ASEAN continues to play a vital role in promoting peace, stability and mutual trust across the region and beyond.

He stressed that dialogue and cooperation remain essential to maintaining confidence among member states and partners.

Prak Sokhonn also highlighted growing concerns over transnational crime, particularly online scams, which he said are undermining security and trust.

He called for stronger regional coordination and closer cooperation with partner countries to dismantle criminal networks and protect citizens.

Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, opening the meeting, said ASEAN must remain a “primary driving force” in shaping the regional architecture despite an increasingly complex global environment.

The APSC Council Meeting, part of the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings hosted by the Philippines, brings together ASEAN foreign ministers to discuss political and security challenges.

Manila, as ASEAN chair, is pushing initiatives on stability, maritime cooperation, food and energy security, and protection of Southeast Asian nationals.
