PHNOM PENH, May 29, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has called for reforms to global governance systems in response to rising geopolitical tensions, climate change, and economic uncertainty.

Speaking at a meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance at the United Nations headquarters in New York on May 28, Secretary of State Kan Pharidh said countries must work together to address increasingly complex global challenges.

The meeting, held under the theme “Reforming and Enhancing Global Governance: Working Together to Address Global Challenges”, brought together representatives to discuss international cooperation and multilateral reform.

Kan Pharidh attended on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn. In his remarks, he stressed the importance of inclusive, rules-based cooperation that places people at the centre of global decision-making.

He also urged a stronger role and greater representation for developing countries in global governance institutions.

Referring to Cambodia’s own experience of moving from conflict to peace, Kan Pharidh said dialogue, diplomacy, and collective action were essential to achieving peace and sustainable development.
