Cambodia–Vietnam Trade Surpasses $4 Billion in First Five Months of 2026

PHNOM PENH, June 11, 2026 (KPT) — Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Vietnam exceeded US$4 billion in the first five months of 2026, driven by strong growth in Cambodian exports, official data showed Thursday.

The General Department of Customs and Excise said two‑way trade reached more than US$4.1 billion between January and May, up 6.8 percent from the same period last year. Cambodia’s exports to Vietnam totaled US$2.32 billion, a 13.7 percent increase year‑on‑year, while imports from Vietnam stood at US$1.78 billion, down 1 percent.

The figures highlight continued momentum in Cambodia’s export sector and underscore Vietnam’s role as one of Cambodia’s key trading partners. Major Cambodian exports included paddy rice, rubber, cashew nuts, cassava, corn, bananas, mangoes and tobacco. Imports from Vietnam consisted mainly of construction materials, machinery, fuel, electrical equipment, fertilizers, spices, vegetables and fruits.

Lor Vichet, vice president of the Cambodia‑China Commerce Association, attributed the growth to Vietnam’s expanding economy and rising demand for competitively priced Cambodian agricultural products.

The strong performance comes as the Cambodian government pursues policies aimed at raising bilateral trade with Vietnam to US$20 billion annually. According to the Ministry of Commerce, total trade between the two countries reached US$7.7 billion in 2025, slightly down from US$7.8 billion in 2024.

The latest figures reflect Cambodia’s growing role as a supplier of agricultural goods to regional markets, even as imports from Vietnam remain vital for industrial and consumer needs.
