Cambodia Urges Teochew Business Leaders to Boost Investment, Promote Visa-Free Travel

Phnom Penh, June 13, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s tourism minister has urged nearly 400 Teochew Chinese business leaders from around the world to champion investment opportunities and highlight the country’s new visa-free entry scheme for Chinese citizens.
Speaking at an expanded meeting of association presidents ahead of the 11th World Teochew Business Convention, Tourism Minister Huot Hak said the gathering offered a chance to deepen economic and cultural ties between Cambodia and China.
The event was attended by China’s Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, Cambodia-China Friendship Association President Pung Kheav Se, senior officials, investors and representatives from multiple countries.
Huot described the upcoming convention, scheduled for December 2–5, 2026, as a landmark occasion. Organisers noted it will be the first time the event is hosted outside China.
“The convention will showcase Cambodia’s investment climate, economic potential and tourism attractions to an international audience, while strengthening cooperation between our two countries,” Huot said.
He pointed to Cambodia’s political stability, security and economic growth as key factors underpinning tourism and foreign investment, stressing the country remained a safe and welcoming destination.

Cambodia will launch a trial visa-free programme for Chinese citizens from June 15 to October 15, 2026. The scheme allows multiple entries and stays of up to 14 days without a visa.
Official figures show Cambodia welcomed 6.7 million international visitors in 2025, including more than 1.2 million from China — a 42 percent increase on the previous year.
Data from the first five months of 2026 confirm Chinese tourists remain the largest group of international arrivals, underscoring their importance to the sector.
