Türkiye Pledges to Deepen Bilateral Ties with Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, June 22, 2026 (KPT) – Türkiye’s newly appointed ambassador to Cambodia has pledged to strengthen and expand bilateral relations during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace, officials said Monday.
Ambassador Mesut Özcan met Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on June 22, expressing appreciation for longstanding cooperation between the two countries and thanking the Cambodian government for its support.
He said he was honoured by his appointment and committed to broadening ties across multiple sectors during his tenure in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated the envoy and welcomed the positive trajectory of relations, voicing confidence that cooperation would continue to grow under Özcan’s leadership.
The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in trade and investment, security and defence, education, tourism and environmental protection.
Hun Manet encouraged the ambassador to maintain close engagement with Cambodian ministries and institutions to advance bilateral cooperation.
Diplomatic and economic ties between Cambodia and Türkiye have gradually expanded in recent years, with both governments signalling interest in broadening engagement beyond traditional areas.
Officials say the relationship now encompasses not only political dialogue but also practical cooperation in commerce, cultural exchange and sustainable development.
Observers note that Cambodia and Ankara have increasingly sought to diversify partnerships, with Cambodia looking to attract new investment and Türkiye aiming to deepen its presence in Southeast Asia.
