Laos marks 70 years of diplomatic ties with Cambodia in message to Senate President Hun Sen

Vientiane, Laos, June 29, 2026 (KPT) – The President of the National Assembly of Laos has congratulated Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reaffirming a commitment to deepen cooperation and strengthen their long-standing partnership.

In a message dated June 15, the Lao leader recalled the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia on June 15, 1956.

He extended congratulations on behalf of the National Assembly, the Lao people and personally, while conveying best wishes to members of Cambodia’s National Assembly through the Senate President.

The letter emphasized that the traditional friendship between Laos and Cambodia has been continuously nurtured and strengthened over the past seven decades, bringing tangible benefits to both nations.

It highlighted the importance of solidarity and mutual trust in advancing cooperation across political, economic, cultural and social fields.

The Lao leader pledged to work closely with Hun Sen to further enhance the two countries’ friendship, expand bilateral cooperation and reinforce their comprehensive and long-term strategic partnership.

He noted that the anniversary was not only a celebration of past achievements but also a reaffirmation of shared aspirations for peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

The message concluded with wishes for the enduring friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Laos and Cambodia, as well as between their legislative bodies, to continue growing and achieving further progress.
