PHNOM PENH, July 1, 2026 (KPT) –National Assembly of Cambodia (NA) opened the sixth session of its seventh legislature on Wednesday, with lawmakers convening in Phnom Penh for proceedings that included a royal address from King Norodom Sihamoni and a review of parliamentary work.

The session was presided over by National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary and attended by 106 members of parliament, alongside diplomatic representatives and development partners.

According to the Assembly, the agenda focused on two main items: the King’s message and a report reviewing activities during the intersession period between the fifth and sixth sessions.

In his address, King Sihamoni praised the achievements of the Assembly, saying they reflected effective implementation of its constitutional responsibilities with accountability and respect for national laws.

He commended lawmakers for engaging with citizens across the country, strengthening unity and addressing public concerns.

The King also expressed support for Prime Minister Hun Manet’s government, describing its record in maintaining peace, political stability, public order and macroeconomic resilience as “significant and commendable accomplishments.”

He said these conditions had supported economic growth, investment, job creation and improved livelihoods through industrial diversification and stronger domestic production.

Calling for continued unity, the King urged Cambodians at home and abroad to support efforts to safeguard sovereignty, resolve disputes peacefully and advance national development through reform and modernization.

He also encouraged youth participation in implementing the new military service law, saying it would contribute to national defence and resilience.
