Cambodia Highlights Youth Skills, Gender Equality at Regional Forum in Laos

VIENTIANE, June 5, 2026 (KPT) — A Cambodian parliamentary delegation has shared the country’s experience in human capital development and gender equality at a regional meeting on youth empowerment in Laos.
Led by Seng Nyok and Kheung Nopheak of the National Assembly’s 8th Commission and the Cambodian Association of Parliamentarians for Population and Development, the delegation joined the Subregional Parliamentarians’ Meeting of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) in Vientiane on June 4–5.
Speaking at the forum, Seng Nyok outlined Cambodia’s education and skills policies, citing the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I under Prime Minister Hun Manet, which prioritises human capital development.
He said the government is expanding technical and vocational training in schools and offering programmes for 1.5 million young people from poor households to boost competitiveness in the regional labour market.
He also highlighted measures to increase women’s participation and improve access for vulnerable groups, including indigenous communities and those in remote areas, with a focus on STEM education.
Organisers said the AFPPD forum provides a platform for parliamentarians to exchange experiences and strengthen policy responses to demographic change, education and workforce development, supporting inclusive growth across the region.
