DPM Prak Sokhonn reiterates readiness for Francophonie Summit in Paris

PARIS, July 1, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has reaffirmed its readiness to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in November, as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn attended an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) in Paris.
The 47th Extraordinary Ministerial Conference, held on June 30, brought together foreign ministers and officials responsible for Francophone affairs from the OIF’s 53 member states, with participants joining both in person and virtually.
According to the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, the meeting was divided into two sessions. The first featured presentations by candidates seeking to become the OIF’s next secretary‑general, followed by a question‑and‑answer session in which delegates discussed the candidates’ strategic visions for the organisation.
The second session was held behind closed doors, allowing ministers and heads of delegation to exchange views and formulate recommendations.
Those recommendations will be submitted to heads of state and government, who will make the final decision on the appointment of the next OIF secretary‑general.
Addressing the meeting, Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit, scheduled for November 15–16 under the theme “Reinvesting in Peace for Shared Prosperity and Sustainable Stability.”
He said Cambodia was prepared to welcome international delegations and would work closely with partner countries to ensure the summit was successfully organised.
