Banking cooperation with Canada highlighted as investment interest grows
PHNOM PENH, July 23, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Canada have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in banking and finance as Canadian businesses show growing interest in expanding investment in the Kingdom, officials said Wednesday.
The commitment was underscored during a meeting between National Bank of Cambodia Governor Chea Serey and Canadian Ambassador Christian DesRoches, who exchanged views on the global economic outlook, Cambodia’s performance and developments in the financial sector. Both sides discussed opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation in banking and finance.

Ambassador DesRoches praised longstanding ties between the two countries and commended Cambodia’s banking industry and digital payment systems, noting successful operations of Canadian firms in banking and insurance.
He expressed optimism that a Canadian business delegation accompanying Prime Minister Mark Carney to the Francophonie Summit in November would help attract further investment, particularly in financial services.
Governor Serey welcomed Canadian participation, saying it has expanded access to financial services, promoted inclusion and strengthened Cambodia’s banking system.
She highlighted the resilience of the financial sector while acknowledging challenges, and reaffirmed the central bank’s commitment to strengthening regulation, supervision and support mechanisms to safeguard stability and enhance investor confidence.
