Cambodia commerce minister urges stronger ASEAN role at Davos forum
DAVOS–KLOSTERS, Switzerland, Jan 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s commerce minister Cham Nimul on Tuesday called for deeper regional cooperation to boost ASEAN’s competitiveness, telling the World Economic Forum that the bloc must position itself as a long‑term investment destination.

Speaking at a panel on “New Pathways for ASEAN Growth and Productivity,” Nimul joined regional and global leaders in outlining strategies to strengthen connectivity and resilience. The discussion highlighted priority areas including energy transition, the digital economy, financial markets and industrialization.
Nimul stressed that closer collaboration between governments, the private sector and stakeholders was essential to enhance productivity and drive sustainable development. The session underscored ASEAN’s ambition to attract global investment while adapting to shifting economic and technological trends.

The Davos meeting, which gathers political and business leaders from around the world, has placed ASEAN’s growth prospects on the agenda as the region seeks to reinforce its role in the global economy.
