Austria eyes investment in Cambodia’s tourism sector, direct flight potential
PHNOM PENH, March 18, 2026 (KPT) – Austrian investors are exploring opportunities in Cambodia’s tourism sector, with both sides reaffirming plans to expand cooperation and examine the possibility of direct flights, officials said Wednesday.
Tourism Minister Huot Hak met with Andreas Sumper, Deputy Head of Mission of the Austrian Embassy; Max Gridling, Honorary Consul General of Austria; and Christian-Petru Ciochirca, CEO of M8 M8imize GmbH, during a trade mission to the Kingdom.

The delegation said the visit aimed to better understand Cambodia’s political, economic and social environment, as well as investment prospects, particularly in tourism. Company representatives highlighted their experience in staging international sporting events, noting the potential to help promote Cambodia as a global destination.
Hak welcomed the delegation and underscored Cambodia’s strong tourism potential, citing political stability, security and continued economic growth. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and explore the launch of direct flights between Vienna and Cambodian hubs such as Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
Cambodia and Austria established diplomatic ties in 1956, marking nearly 70 years of cooperation. In early 2026, more than 2,000 Austrian tourists visited Cambodia, reflecting growing tourism links between the two countries.
