PHNOM PENH, April 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia recorded a surge in holiday travel during the Khmer New Year, with nearly 40,000 air passengers passing through the country’s airports over the three day festival, officials said Tuesday.

Sinn Chanserey Vutha, spokesperson for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said 347 flights and 39,697 passengers were recorded from April 14–16, reflecting strong demand during one of the Kingdom’s biggest annual celebrations.

He noted that the newly developed Techo International Airport handled both domestic and international traffic, including 12 domestic flights carrying 515 passengers. International travel accounted for the majority, with 315 flights transporting 38,794 passengers — 160 inbound flights with 18,327 passengers, 155 outbound flights with 20,467 passengers, and 382 transit passengers.

Beyond air travel, authorities reported 21.09 million visits nationwide, including more than 1.14 million overnight domestic tourists, nearly 19.9 million day trippers and over 71,000 international visitors.

Phnom Penh alone drew more than 4.3 million visitors, boosted by large scale festivities such as the Nokor Sankranta Phnom Penh held across multiple venues. Nearly 200,000 people also visited the former Phnom Penh International Airport site, which was opened to the public as a recreational space during the holiday.
