PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2026 (KPT) — Efforts to reintegrate migrant workers returning from Thailand are being intensified, with officials reporting hundreds of thousands already placed in jobs through nationwide programs.

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training said it will continue implementing support measures to ensure returnees can access employment, acquire new skills and earn sustainable incomes.

Spokesperson Sun Mesa said the ministry remains fully engaged in assisting workers through job services, vocational training and skills recognition. “We are maintaining campaigns and programs, including free technical and vocational training and Recognition of Prior Learning assessments. Ten thousand scholarships have been provided for returning workers to undergo skills assessments free of charge,” he noted.

Government data show about 970,000 Cambodians had returned from Thailand by the first quarter of 2026. Since mid‑2025, more than 30 support measures have been introduced, ranging from border reception services to job fairs and training initiatives. Nearly 670,000 returnees have secured employment, while 90,000 additional opportunities have been identified across industry, agriculture and services.

The new investment projects are expected to generate further jobs. Training programs, including a seven‑day sewing course with allowances and full support for meals and accommodation, are being expanded to match labour market demand.

Labour representatives welcomed the efforts, citing improved workplace conditions. National Labour Confederation President Sam Soeun said stronger monitoring and oversight have contributed to better compliance with labour standards and rising worker satisfaction.
