PHNOM PENH, June 7, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic and investment cooperation as a new Chinese Economic and Commercial Counselor takes office, officials said Friday.

Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), met with Zhong Jie, outgoing Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, for a farewell audience marking the end of her diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, Jie introduced her successor, Xue Dong, who will continue efforts to strengthen bilateral economic ties.

Chanthol praised Jie’s role in advancing trade, attracting Chinese foreign direct investment, and supporting major infrastructure projects that have fueled Cambodia’s economic growth. He said these achievements had reinforced the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the countries’ longstanding “Ironclad Friendship.”

Jie expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its cooperation, noting that Cambodia remains a promising destination for investment and one of China’s most trusted partners.

Chanthol voiced confidence that relations would continue to flourish under Xue’s tenure, pledging the CDC’s support in facilitating investment, addressing challenges faced by investors, and ensuring a favorable business environment.
