Cambodia Marks Chinese Language Day, Urges Youth to Seize Global Opportunities
PHNOM PENH, April 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia marked International Chinese Language Day with a call to equip its youth with skills to unlock global education, business and employment opportunities, officials said Tuesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron and Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin co-chaired the celebration at the Confucius Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, joined by education leaders, diplomats, teachers and hundreds of students.

Ambassador Wang hailed the “ironclad friendship” between the two countries, stressing that language learning strengthens cultural understanding and people-to-people exchanges. He said mastering Chinese opens doors to one of the world’s oldest civilizations and creates pathways for deeper cooperation.
Minister Naron underscored the strategic importance of Chinese proficiency in Cambodia’s education system, describing it as a competitive edge for youth as the country integrates further into regional and global economies. “Mastering Chinese is not only beneficial for personal development, but also a key driver of economic growth,” he said, adding that language skills will support Cambodia’s Vision 2050 goal of becoming a high-income nation.
Officials highlighted efforts to expand Chinese language learning nationwide and integrate it into the national curriculum, backed by cooperation with China. They said such initiatives are helping students access international education and improve employability at home and abroad.
The event, organized with support from the Chinese Embassy and China’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation, served as a platform to promote language learning and strengthen educational ties between the two countries.
