PHNOM PENH, Mar. 10, 2026 (KPT) —Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia has ordered fuel distributors and service stations nationwide to tighten compliance in fuel sales, warning of legal action against operators who exploit shortages or raise prices unlawfully.

In a directive dated March 9, the ministry said the measures aim to ensure transparency in supply and sales at petrol stations and depots across the country.

Fuel companies must enforce proper management practices, sell fuel at publicly displayed prices, and guarantee both quality and quantity.

The order follows the ministry’s announcement of new retail fuel prices, which are regularly adjusted in line with global market trends.

Officials said the compliance measures are designed to ensure that stations strictly apply the official rates and prevent arbitrary increases that could burden consumers.

Stations are required to notify authorities at least one day in advance if they run out of fuel or suspend operations, and must announce when supplies resume. They must also keep transparent inventory records and alert officials when stocks fall to around 10 percent.

Priority access to fuel should be given to ambulances, fire trucks, farmers, and logistics operators to safeguard public services and economic activity.

The ministry said inspections will be carried out by the General Department of Consumer Protection and Competition, provincial commerce departments, and local authorities.

It stressed that accountability is expected at every level of the supply chain, and warned that violators will face legal consequences.
