Battambang residents queue as Cambodia updates fuel prices

BATTAMBANG, March 9, 2026 (KPT) – Long queues have formed at fuel stations across Battambang Province as residents rushed to fill up ahead of nationwide fuel price adjustments. Traffic slowed to near standstill at peak hours, while some smaller outlets temporarily closed.
Fuel prices in Battambang remain unchanged for now, with regular gasoline at 3,850 riel per litre.
Officials said some remote stations removed price tags, and a few posted notices reading “Out of Gasoline/Diesel for Sale.”
The Ministry of Commerce has warned against selling fuel in jerrycans or containers for stockpiling, citing fire risks, and urged stations not to exploit the situation for excessive profits.
On March 7, officials visited outlets to remind owners that prices must not exceed 4,000 riel per litre, with violators facing suspension and legal action.
From March 8 to 10, new nationwide rates take effect: Gasoline 92 at 4,400 riel per litre and Diesel (Gasoil 10ppm) at 5,150 riel per litre.
The adjustment follows a formula introduced in 2022 by the ministries of Economy and Finance, Commerce, and Mines and Energy, reflecting recent movements in regional and global oil markets.
Authorities said inspections will continue to enforce compliance and curb abnormal increases.
Residents were urged to buy fuel responsibly and avoid panic buying, with officials stressing that adherence to safety and pricing rules is essential to market stability.
