Cambodia Discusses Cooperation With German AfD Representative

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Acting Head of State Samdech Techo Hun Sen met Thursday with a representative of Germany’s Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to discuss possible future cooperation.
Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo welcomed Peter Altmann, a local board member of the AfD in Karlsruhe, and expressed hope he would enjoy his visit to Cambodia, including the chance to see the country’s development firsthand.
Altmann thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for the courtesy call, saying he had previously learned about Cambodia mainly through books and European media.
He described the meeting as an opportunity to meet Samdech Techo in person and praised what he called the Cambodian leader’s past sacrifices and achievements.
Altmann also lauded Cambodia’s progress, calling the country “very beautiful” and saying he had grown to appreciate it after visiting.
The two sides discussed prospects for expanding ties between the ruling Cambodian People’s Party and the AfD, as well as broader cooperation between Cambodia and Germany.
