PHNOM PENH, April 2, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Acting Head of State and Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen met with Takahashi Fumiaki, president of the Japan-Cambodia Association, during a courtesy call in Phnom Penh, officials said Wednesday.

The meeting took place April 1 at the Senate, where Hun Sen welcomed Takahashi and his delegation. Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo Hun Sen praised the association’s role in encouraging Japanese investment in Cambodia.

Takahashi said he was impressed by Cambodia’s continued development, noting that each visit revealed further progress.

He highlighted opportunities in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), describing them as a key focus for the association, and pointed to Cambodia’s natural resources and Japan’s technological expertise as complementary strengths for boosting production and exports.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen voiced support for increased investment, particularly in SMEs, which he called a major driver of economic growth. He also acknowledged Japan’s broader contributions to Cambodia’s development.
