Samdech Hun Sen welcomes CICA chief to Cambodia, highlights regional cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Mar 31, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Tuesday received Kairat Sarybay, Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), for a courtesy call at the Peace Palace.
Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said Hun Sen warmly welcomed Sarybay and his delegation, noting their visit to Siem Reap and expressing hope they were impressed by Cambodia’s ancient temples and natural beauty.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined CICA’s role in promoting peace and security regionally and globally.
Sarybay praised Cambodia’s leadership under Samdech Techo Hun Sen, highlighting the country’s contributions to peace-building and international engagement through ASEAN and CICA.
He pointed to Cambodia’s active participation in CICA initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation across Asia.
He also discussed potential areas for deeper collaboration, including tourism, education and commerce, to expand ties among member states.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed appreciation for CICA’s efforts to foster regional cooperation, particularly between Southeast and Central Asia, citing countries such as Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. He wished the Secretary-General a successful visit to Cambodia.
