PHNOM PENH, Mar. 4 (KPT) – Austria’s newly appointed ambassador to Cambodia has pledged to strengthen economic and investment cooperation as she formally presented her credentials to acting head of state Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

Ambassador Katharina Wieser met Samdech Techo at the Senate’s Samdech Vibol Samaki Palace on Wednesday, where she highlighted opportunities to expand bilateral ties, particularly in trade and investment.

She said around 10 Austrian companies are expected to visit Cambodia soon to explore business opportunities.

Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador’s prompt arrival, describing it as a reflection of Austria’s commitment to deepening relations.

He voiced support for stronger economic engagement and emphasized the importance of building on the long standing partnership, which dates back to 1956.

Samdech Techo also briefed Wieser on Cambodia’s recent border tensions with Thailand, stressing that both sides are working toward a ceasefire and negotiations in line with international law to maintain stability.

The meeting underscored Austria’s intention to translate diplomatic goodwill into concrete economic initiatives during Wieser’s tenure.
