PHNOM PENH, March 3 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has confirmed that a worker’s death and a series of fainting incidents at a factory in Kandal province were not caused by unsafe working conditions.

The announcement followed a second inspection at CAMBO UNISOLL LTD in Khsach Kandal district on Monday, after an initial review on February 27.

Spokesperson Sun Mesa said experts examined heat levels, lighting, dust, air systems and compliance with occupational safety standards, concluding that the incidents were not linked to workplace violations.

On February 27, 34-year-old worker Yim Rin collapsed after reportedly viewing a distressing news report and later died en route to hospital. Following her collapse, 20 female colleagues fainted in succession.

Minister of Labour Heng Sour ordered immediate inspections, and operations have since resumed. Of the 20 workers, 18 returned to work on March 2, while two were granted leave.

The deceased worker’s family received a funeral benefit of 10 million riels, with a post-mortem assessment by the National Social Security Fund under way to determine further entitlements.

Mesa said the ministry would continue monitoring the situation and reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety and workers’ welfare nationwide.
