Cambodia Urges Factories to Boost Worker Safety Amid Rising Heat

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 3, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has urged factory owners and managers to strengthen occupational safety measures as temperatures rise across the country.

Ministry spokesperson Sun Mesa said the reminder reflects Labour Minister Heng Sour’s concern for both worker well-being and the smooth operation of factories during the hot season.

Authorities outlined several measures enterprises should adopt, including maintaining ventilation systems, ensuring adequate airflow, and keeping materials and equipment stored safely.

Factories are also encouraged to provide clean drinking water, promote regular hydration, and ensure workers wear suitable clothing for hot conditions.

Other recommended steps include spraying water on rooftops to reduce heat, assigning staff to monitor workplace temperatures, and increasing worker awareness of health protection measures through internal communication systems.

In urgent situations, enterprise owners, managers, and workers can contact the Ministry via hotlines 1286 or 1297, reach relevant authorities, or submit complaints through the Ministry’s anonymous reporting system to address potential health and safety risks.

Officials said the measures are part of broader efforts to safeguard workers and maintain productivity during Cambodia’s increasingly hot weather conditions.
