Cambodia Launches First ‘Baby Olympics’ to Nurture Sporting Spirit from Early Childhood

PHNOM PENH, Jan 26, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia will host its first ever Baby Olympics next month, an initiative aimed at introducing children to sports from an early age while promoting the Olympic spirit of participation, courage and healthy living.

The event was announced by Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, during a press conference on January 24.

He said the Baby Olympics is designed to instill sporting values in children, encouraging physical activity, confidence and stronger bonds between children and parents.

“This is about planting the Olympic spirit in children early,” Chamroeun said. “Doing sports every day is like a magic formula for developing both body and mind.”

The inaugural Baby Olympic Games will take place on February 1 at AEON III Meanchey Mall, with more than 300 boys and girls aged between one and seven expected to participate in 10 disciplines divided by age group.

Chamroeun stressed the event is not about competition but participation, with all children receiving medals and souvenirs. He noted similar events abroad have expanded to regional and global levels, and said Cambodia plans to hold the Baby Olympics annually to build a sports culture from early childhood.
