Cambodia Signs Host Contract for 2031 Asian Youth Games

PHNOM PENH, Jan 26, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has formally signed the Host City Contract for the 5th Asian Youth Games 2031, marking a major step in preparations to stage another large scale international sporting event.

The signing ceremony took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on January 26, with Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), representing NOCC President Thong Khon.

He was joined by Seng Vannak, Deputy Governor representing Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng. The contract was signed with Timothy Fox, Acting President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

Chamroeun said the agreement provides the operational framework for organizing the Games, defining responsibilities between the OCA and the host city in line with international sports regulations.

The 2031 Asian Youth Games are expected to bring together athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees across Asia. Chamroeun said Cambodia’s Olympic movement is committed to meeting all requirements, describing the event as another historic opportunity following the country’s successful hosting of the 2023 SEA Games.

He added that hosting the Games aligns with Cambodia’s national vision of becoming an upper middle income country by 2030, while showcasing its capacity to organize major international events.
