Senate President Thanks International Community for Support in Cambodia’s Peace Efforts

PHNOM PENH, Jan.08,2026 (KPT) — Senate President and ruling party leader Samdech Techo Hun Sen has expressed gratitude to the international community for supporting Cambodia’s efforts to resolve recent tensions peacefully.
In a message marking the 47th anniversary of Victory Day on Jan. 7, Samdech Techo Hun Sen singled out the United States, China and ASEAN member states, noting Malaysia’s role as ASEAN chair in facilitating dialogue. He thanked all parties for their involvement since the cease-fire signed on July 28, 2025.
Samdech Techo urged Cambodians to foster national pride, self-reliance and solidarity, saying unity is essential to overcoming challenges. Reflecting on Cambodia’s history, he said past atrocities reinforced the country’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty.
He also praised contributions from Cambodians at home and abroad to support national forces and civilians displaced by conflict, calling the widespread participation a sign of resilience and determination.
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn told diplomats Monday that the Cambodia-Thailand border situation is stabilizing after recent talks, though concerns remain over displaced civilians.
He cited progress from ASEAN and trilateral meetings, and said a Dec. 27 cease-fire included commitments to safe civilian return and renewed boundary negotiations.
