Cambodia rejects Thai media claims over alleged weapons seizure

PHNOM PENH, Jan 6, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior on Tuesday rejected reports in Thai media alleging that Thai marines had seized a cache of Cambodian weapons inside the Thmor Da Casino compound.

In a statement, the ministry said the reports were “false” and misidentified both the location and circumstances shown in images circulated by Thai outlets.

According to the ministry, the photographs did not depict the casino but Gate 56 of the Border Patrol Police under Battalion 825 in Pursat province, which it stressed lies entirely within Cambodian territory.

The ministry said the dissemination of what it described as false information contradicted commitments made in Paragraph 8 of the Joint Statement from the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee meeting on December 27, which called on both sides to avoid misleading reports in order to reduce tensions.

It added that any seizure of weapons from a police facility inside Cambodian territory would amount to a violation of international law, for which Thailand would bear responsibility.

Cambodia urged Bangkok to halt what it called hostile actions and reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border issues peacefully and in line with the GBC agreement.
