PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 15, 2025) — Cambodia has called on the international community to pressure Thailand after Thai military forces allegedly continued attacks on Cambodian civilian areas despite ceasefire agreements, including one recently proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence, said Thai forces launched a series of strikes in Military Region 5 throughout the morning of Dec. 15.

She reported that at 1:30 a.m., Thai drones dropped explosives over Boeung Trakoun. Shelling followed at Prey Chan Village at 6:55 a.m. and Chouk Chey Village at 7:00 a.m. Mortar fire struck O’ Phlok Damrey at 7:17 a.m., then Thmar Da commune in Pursat province at 7:19 a.m. Drone strikes were also reported in Chey Chomnes at 7:44 a.m.

Socheata said the situation in Military Region 4 remained calm. She rejected Thai claims that Cambodian forces targeted civilians, insisting operations were directed solely at Thai military units. Cambodian authorities reported 11 civilians killed and 59 injured in the attacks.

She also dismissed reports that Cambodia had banned travel to Thailand, saying border restrictions on land and waterways were precautionary measures in response to shelling.

The government demanded Thailand halt aggressive actions, stop spreading false information, cease attacks on civilians and infrastructure, and refrain from damaging historical sites.

“Peace can only be achieved through concrete actions, not words,” Socheata said, urging Thailand to show goodwill. She called on the international community to condemn alleged violations of the ceasefire and hold Thailand accountable, while reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to international and humanitarian law.

Cambodia reiterated its adherence to the Ceasefire Agreement and Joint Declaration signed Oct. 26, 2025, witnessed by Trump and Anwar in his role as ASEAN chair. The ministry said Cambodian forces remain engaged in defending the country’s territorial integrity.
