More than 1,500 Cambodians in Japan protest Thai attacks on sovereignty

TOKYO (Dec. 14, 2025) — More than 1,500 Cambodians, including migrant workers and students living in Japan, gathered Sunday across six locations to denounce what they called brutal and indiscriminate attacks by Thai forces against Cambodia’s sovereignty.

The demonstrations took place in Tokyo, Osaka, Aichi, Hiroshima and Fukuoka, where participants carried banners, shouted slogans and expressed solidarity with Cambodian troops defending the border. Despite near-freezing temperatures and rain in some areas, protesters condemned Thailand’s military actions, which they said destroyed schools, pagodas and infrastructure while gravely violating human rights.

Organizers submitted petitions to the U.S. and Malaysian embassies in Tokyo, as well as Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging international pressure on Thailand to halt its aggression.

The Cambodian community in Japan to also called on the United States, Malaysia and the broader international community to monitor the situation and take urgent measures to ensure the safety of civilians along the border and preserve regional peace.

On Dec. 10, Cambodian groups in Tokyo and Osaka held similar rallies condemning Thailand’s earlier attacks on Cambodian territory.
