Floods Damage More Than 5,000 Hectares of Farmland in Pursat
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 26, 2025) — More than 5,000 hectares of crops in Pursat province have been inundated by heavy rains, with nearly 1,000 hectares completely destroyed across Phnom Kravanh, Pursat City and Kandieng districts, provincial agricultural officials said Thursday.
Hai Thoura, director of the Pursat Provincial Department of Agriculture, said a total of 5,054 hectares of wet‑season and dry‑season rice fields were affected, while 922 hectares suffered total loss. Industrial and cash crops were also hit, with hundreds of hectares damaged.
The province had already exceeded its wet‑season rice cultivation targets for 2025 and harvested more than 132,000 hectares before the flooding struck. But prolonged waterlogging has reduced both yield and grain quality in affected fields, Thoura said.
Authorities reported that water levels are receding, allowing some farmers to salvage crops. Still, many households are facing significant losses as assessments and recovery efforts continue.
