PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 21, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peace and territorial integrity amid ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

In a statement issued this week, the ministry outlined government strategies following recent clashes, including an incident involving 18 Cambodian soldiers in Banteay Meanchey province. It said Cambodia is working to prevent further escalation, protect civilians, and restore normalcy through dialogue and bilateral mechanisms.

Talks are being coordinated through the General Border Committee and Regional Border Committee, with preparatory meetings underway in Kuala Lumpur ahead of a second special GBC session scheduled for Oct. 23.

The statement echoed remarks by Prime Minister Hun Manet during the Oct. 20 inauguration of Techo International Airport, where he emphasized conflict containment, peaceful resolution, and long-term stability.

The ministry also dismissed speculation that the July 28 ceasefire and a forthcoming peace accord could result in territorial concessions. “These agreements focus solely on conflict prevention and peaceful cooperation,” it said. “They do not alter existing borders or imply any loss of Cambodian territory.”

Cambodia thanked international partners for supporting the ceasefire, including Malaysia, China, and U.S. President Donald Trump.
