PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.20,2025) — Cambodia’s National Assembly on Saturday rejected a report by Thailand’s The Nation newspaper, calling its claims false and misleading. The report alleged that Cambodia used international platforms to damage Thailand’s reputation.

In a statement, the National Assembly said its delegation participated in two sessions on Oct. 19 during the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva: the ASEAN+3 meeting chaired by Singapore and the Asia-Pacific Group meeting led by China.

The Cambodian delegation, represented by Ngy Chanphal, reportedly maintained a cordial and respectful attitude toward the Thai delegation, particularly its leader, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of Thailand’s National Assembly. The Thai delegation leader was said to have approached the Cambodian side to exchange greetings in a gesture of mutual courtesy.

Cambodia also expressed support for Thailand’s proposed draft emergency item titled “Strengthening Parliamentary Action Against Transnational Cybercrime while Upholding Humanitarian Principles.” The Cambodian delegation contributed amendments aimed at enhancing the proposal’s content and ensuring its broader relevance.

Reaffirming its diplomatic position, the National Assembly emphasized Cambodia’s status as an independent and sovereign nation committed to international cooperation, legal norms, and ASEAN solidarity.

“Cambodia believes the friendship between Cambodia and Thailand must be based on mutual understanding, respect, and equality,” the statement said. “These are essential values for long-lasting peace and regional cooperation.”
