CMAC receives $600,000 U.S. grant for demining project
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 29, 2025) — The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) welcomed a U.S. congressional delegation this week following the signing of a $600,000 grant agreement to support demining operations in Cambodia.

The agreement was signed Sept. 27 at the Technical Institute for Mine Action in Kampong Chhnang province. Attendees included U.S. congressional members Adam Smith, Michael Baumgartner and Chrissy Houlahan, along with Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia and Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) Cambodia Country Director Hans Peter Risser.

The visit, organized by the U.S. Embassy through NPA, aimed to observe CMAC’s ongoing efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war under U.S.-funded cooperation programs.
The grant will fund demining activities over a five-month period from Nov. 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026.

CMAC Director-General Heng Ratana expressed appreciation for the continued U.S. support, noting that the United States has been Cambodia’s largest contributor to mine clearance and unexploded ordnance (UXO) projects since 1993.
