Prak Sokhonn Meets Foreign Ministers at UN, Raises Cambodia–Thailand Border Dispute
NEW YORK, U.S (Sept.26, 2025) — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly this week, aiming to strengthen diplomatic ties and spotlight the ongoing border dispute with Thailand.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sokhonn met with several counterparts, including Japanese Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun. He also met with Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, to discuss humanitarian cooperation and regional security.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry said Iwaya expressed condolences to victims of recent military clashes between Cambodia and Thailand, and urged both sides to uphold the ceasefire agreement and pursue peaceful dialogue. He reaffirmed Japan’s support for de-escalation efforts.
The meetings reflect Cambodia’s broader diplomatic push to reinforce its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, regional cooperation, and multilateralism.
Chheang Vannarith, Chairman of the Angkor Social Innovation Park, said the UN General Assembly offers Cambodia a vital platform to advocate for global governance and regional peace.
“Effective ceasefire implementation is not just a bilateral issue—it’s essential to regional stability,” he said.
