PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.10, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence on Wednesday welcomed the arrival of the ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Brig. Gen. Dato’ Pahlawan Asri bin Shukor, Director of Training at the Royal Malaysian Army Headquarters and Head of Mission for the IOT.

The delegation, which includes representatives from Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, landed at Techo International Airport as part of a regional initiative to monitor and support the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.

According to the Ministry, the deployment reflects ASEAN’s active role—particularly Malaysia’s leadership as current Chair—in promoting peace, stability and cooperation between the two nations.

“This mission underscores our shared commitment to ensuring the ceasefire is successful and enduring, with the goal of restoring peace and development for the peoples of Cambodia and Thailand,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The observer team’s arrival follows key diplomatic milestones, including the Special Meeting held on July 28 in Malaysia and the Extraordinary Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee Meeting convened on August 7 in Kuala Lumpur, which led to the formal ceasefire agreement.
