PHNOM PENH, Mar 24, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met visiting Indian official Shri P. Kumaran in Phnom Penh, with both sides pledging to deepen cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, education, culture and security.

The talks, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, come amid growing engagement between the two countries.

India has long supported Cambodia through development assistance and capacity building programs, while both nations have worked to boost regional connectivity and multilateral collaboration.

Officials explored ways to expand cooperation in human resource development, defence, technology and renewable energy, and reviewed preparations for future high level visits.

Sokhonn also briefed Kumaran on recent developments along the Cambodia Thailand border, stressing Phnom Penh’s commitment to stability and peace.

Cambodia and India share decades of diplomatic and cultural ties, with India among the first to recognize Cambodia’s independence.

Relations have broadened under strategic frameworks, with trade flows increasing and cooperation on platforms such as ASEAN India dialogue and the Mekong Ganga initiative.

Bilateral trade has grown steadily, with Cambodia exporting garments, agricultural products and minerals, while importing pharmaceuticals, machinery and technology from India.

Both sides have also expanded cooperation in education, health, infrastructure and tourism, strengthening people to people links.

High level visits and consultations have reinforced ties in defence and security, while cultural exchanges have highlighted shared heritage.

India’s support for Cambodia’s development has included scholarships, training programs and technical assistance, contributing to human resource growth and improved public services.

The visit by Kumaran reflects continued efforts to consolidate ties and advance shared priorities.

Officials said the two countries remain committed to exploring new opportunities in trade, investment, culture and technology, while working together to promote regional stability and integration.
