Cambodia, India discuss expanding ties, citing defence and security

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met India’s Secretary (East) P. Kumaran in Phnom Penh to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place on March 23 at the ministry.
Prak Sokhonn praised what he called a longstanding friendship between the two countries, citing historical, cultural and trade links, and thanked India for its support in cultural preservation and human resource development.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, connectivity, defence and security.

The Cambodian minister said he hoped the third Joint Commission Meeting at foreign minister level would be held soon, and noted that 2027 will mark 75 years of diplomatic ties, suggesting joint commemorative activities.

Kumaran said India remained committed to strengthening relations and announced plans to establish a defence attaché office at its embassy in Phnom Penh.

Prak Sokhonn also briefed the Indian side on recent developments along the Cambodia Thailand border.
