PHNOM PENH, April 10, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Vietnam have pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new mechanisms to boost cooperation, officials said Friday.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodia’s National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary and Tran Cam Tu, Permanent Member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

In a statement, the National Assembly described Cambodia-Vietnam relations as “deep-rooted and resilient,” centered on the interests of both peoples.

Sudary congratulated Vietnam on the outcome of its recent Communist Party Congress and noted progress on gender representation in its legislature.

She expressed confidence in Vietnam’s development under the leadership of To Lam, saying the country was on track to become a developed nation by 2045.

On Cambodia’s outlook, Sudary said the country remained on course to strengthen its economy and achieve long-term goals, including upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050, under the leadership of Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Tran Cam Tu thanked Cambodia for its hospitality and voiced confidence in its leadership. He called for closer cooperation in trade, education, tourism, and border security, as well as joint efforts to combat transnational crime.

Both sides agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, including exchanges between lawmakers, committees, and young and women representatives, and to share experience in legislative reform and digital transformation.
