PHNOM PENH, June 23, 2026 (KPT) – Vietnam has voiced support for a peaceful resolution of the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening military cooperation with Cambodia, officials said Tuesday.

The position was conveyed during a courtesy meeting in Phnom Penh on June 22 between General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Vu Hong Son, Commander of the Air Defense Command of the Vietnam People’s Army.

Lt. Gen. Vu Hong Son said Vietnam was closely monitoring developments along the border and backed efforts to resolve tensions through peaceful means to safeguard long-term stability in the region.

He highlighted the longstanding friendship and solidarity between Cambodia and Vietnam, noting that both countries had stood together during past struggles.

He added that continued cooperation among Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos remained an important foundation for regional peace and development.

Discussing defence ties, Vu Hong Son welcomed the enduring relationship between the air defence forces of the two countries, pointing to Cambodian officers trained in Vietnam as a contribution to capacity-building and stronger military bonds.

General Vong Pisen praised the growing cooperation between the Cambodian and Vietnamese militaries, expressing confidence that ongoing exchanges would further enhance bilateral defence relations.

He thanked Vietnam’s Party, State and People’s Army for their support, particularly in human resource development and strengthening Cambodia’s air force capabilities.

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in delegation exchanges, training, information sharing, crime prevention and disaster response.

Vong Pisen also welcomed Vietnam’s support for the ceasefire and its contribution to the ASEAN Observer Team, urging continued assistance to help monitor the truce and ensure lasting peace along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
