Cambodia and Vietnam reaffirm ties in Phnom Penh meeting

PHNOM PENH, April 11, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met senior Vietnamese official Tran Cam Tu at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, reaffirming the two countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across politics, trade, and security.

The meeting took place on April 10, bringing together Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Tran Cam Tu, a Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat.

Tran conveyed greetings from Vietnam’s top leadership, including Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam, and newly appointed Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.


He praised Cambodia’s recent development achievements and expressed confidence in its continued progress under Hun Manet’s leadership.

Both sides described the relationship as entering a new phase, underscoring the importance of cooperation in defence, education, and people-to-people exchanges, particularly among youth.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated Vietnam on the success of its 14th Communist Party Congress and recent leadership appointments, while highlighting Vietnam’s economic growth and achievements.

He also extended greetings to Vietnam’s senior leaders. Officials said the talks reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple areas, with emphasis on maintaining close political dialogue, expanding trade and investment, and strengthening cultural and educational links.

The meeting was seen as a signal of the enduring friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam, with both governments pledging to continue working together for regional stability and prosperity.
